The Indonesian duo of Rully Shabara and Wukir Suryadi have been exciting various stages globally for the last few years with their mix of Javanese tradition and distinctly avant garde tactics and we’re delighted to finally bring them to TUSK. Shabara’s voice runs from eyeball-wobbling throat singing techniques to seering, soaring tones set against instrument builder Suryadi’s sublime modern-primitive sound creation. As renowned for their supposed ‘math’ and ‘metal’ approaches to music-making as for their diversion of their region’s musical history into new, uncharted zones, Senyawa’s music marries their adolescent loves of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden with their immersion in more timeless local sounds. They’ve also collaborated with such TUSK favourites as Keiji Haino and Tatsuya Yoshida.
Now working with Rabih (Morphosis) Beaini and releasing their output via his Morphine label (as well as great collaborations with both Beaini and Buchla Music Easel maestro Charles Cohen), Senyawa’s live shows frequently astound and their unique sound is sure to be a major spectacle at TUSK 2016.
